Image-Based Risk: The Next Frontier in Breast Cancer Screening
About The Event
In the United States, roughly 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Traditional risk models have long been used to estimate breast cancer risk based on clinical and demographic information. However, the information they rely on may be unavailable, inaccurate, or time-consuming to collect. New image-based risk (IBR) algorithms are shifting this dynamic by using a woman’s existing mammogram to estimate her future risk of breast cancer. IBR models have demonstrated improved risk discrimination compared with traditional models, potentially enabling more impactful personalized strategies. In this session, AI researcher and IBR model developer Andreas Lauritzen will share the latest advances in the field and what healthcare providers should know about the technology.
